Hope Not Deferred
In 2022 Rachel and her children moved into Life Turning Point during a time in her life when making ends meet while financially taking care of family members in other households hindered her from taking care of her own family’s needs. However, Rachel did not complete the program and ended up back in the city shelter system. Then choices were made and a turn of events occurred that led Rachel back for a second opportunity to turn her life around. Rachel, why did you come back?

From Survival to Stability
Before I found Life Turning Point of Philadelphia, I was a hard-working single mother who loved taking care of others. I am non-confrontational. When I was eight or nine while living there, I had an encounter with “the dark si

By her own admission, she was living in addiction—drinking heavily, smoking marijuana, and surviving through prostitution for nearly ten years. Though the lifestyle brought money, designer clothes, luxury trips, and nights of constant partying, it never brought peace. “I had all these things,” Nancy shares, “but at the end of the day, I was still very sad and very lonely.” N

From the Mouth of Babes
Siblings Xena and Xamir are not new to homelessness. Close at their mother’s side they weathered many storms together that led them back to Life Turning Point for a fresh start. The family talks about stability, the importance of mentorship and what hope means to them. Xena, the oldest sibling, led the conversation. “At the other shelters we had a curfew at 9:00 PM and a room, but it was all dirty. The food was horrible and we did not pray. We did not do nothing besides sle
